It's the most wonderful time of the year!

22.12.17

Horsley and Bookham RDA volunteers have been very busy in the run up to Christmas and we want to send a huge thanks from everyone at the charity.

We started the festive season at the end of November, helping Santa find his way to Squires Garden Centre in West Horsley, in style on a Horse and Carriage! Our mascot Barney the Shetland Pony represented the charity to help our volunteers collect donations from generous shoppers, raising £128.33.

Our friends at Wellers Headleys opened their high street branches during late night shopping in Bookham and West Horsley, holding a stunning hamper raffle and raising £273.66 over the two evenings.

We were back at Squires on the first Saturday in December, accompanied by the beautiful voices of Soundbytes Choir and the angelic St Teresa's School Choir to entertain shoppers with festive songs, volunteers collected a further £161.00 from shoppers.

Horsley Village Christmas Fair took place on the same day, and Barney (in his festive antlers!) enjoyed the attention of many of the villagers. Kindly invited by the event committee, the charity joined forces with the Rotary Club to hold a collection raising £279.49. Further funds were raised through the Santa's Grotto and treasure hunt, kindly organised by the committee and split between our RDA and Papyrus.

On Saturday 9 December, our volunteers were once again out in the community, this time at the Eastwick School Christmas Fair, raffling a hamper (items kindly donated by Trustees) and promoting our Sponsor a Pony campaign. The generosity of Eastwick parents added £115 to our Christmas fundraising,

Barney's final appearance of 2017 took place at Cobham Sainsbury, where, along with a team of volunteers, donations were collected from their lovely shoppers across the weekend of the 16 and 17 December. Busy shoppers took the time to stop and say hello (as well as bring carrots and polo's for Barney), donating a fantastic £1,220!!

It's been a busy few weeks but we are delighted that the local community has supported our RDA in so many different ways.

Our heartfelt thanks and festive wishes go to all our volunteers (those who help with weekly rides and those who help at events) as well as those companies who supported us during this time:
