We will have more availability in Easter and Summer Hols if you are looking for holiday only riding shares (it's not compulsory to wear an RDA t-shirt)!
Horsley, Bookham and Leatherhead RDA have ponies available to share - this is a great opportunity for children (and adults) to get involved in all aspects of riding - catching, bringing in, grooming, riding and poo picking! We have a range of brilliant ponies (including the fabulous Freckles) - and they have sharers which ensure that they have a diverse and interesting work programme, as well as helping contribute to our annual fundraising target.
RDA operates for 30 weeks a year, across school terms, so in the holidays and when RDA is not in work there is the opportunity to increase the number of days you can share the ponies. We have 3 schools and local instructors. However, It is imperative that horsey parents are there at all times to help with the smaller ponies and children – you will need to be able to tack up and manage a pony independently of any additional support.
Insurance is required for all our riders and can be found at BHS, Animal Friends or Harry Hall, amongst others.
We have 10 RDA ponies ranging from 10hh - 15.2hh - who will benefit from hacking in our local countryside, they enjoy more advance lessons than their RDA work, and also like to go to local shows / sponsored ride (we provide transport when this is possible).
This is not a riding school environment - sharers (or parents) need to be able to catch, groom, tack up and handle the ponies correctly. However, there is plenty of support and we have local instructors who come to the yard - Lessons are available on site on some days at an additional cost. Our facilities are amazing - with 3 schools, hacking around 70 acre farm, and access to local bridleway groups.
For younger riders we put on quarterly Sharer Day events - Le Trec, Dressage, Gymkhanas etc. We try and take our ponies out to local shows and to our Sponsored Ride to give them a more diverse lifestyle. Occasionally there is also the opportunity for guided, longer hacks with an RDA trustee.
The regular charge per ride is £27.50, which is £120 per month paid by standing order. For this you get hours on each day with your pony - a fantastic time for any pony mad child (or adult).
For ad hoc holiday sharers it is £30 per ride and we will invoice up front for the agreed number of rides. Following a riding / horse knowledge assessment.
